We’re So Technically Advanced, Or Are We?
Internet Technology Exercise #1
- Click inside your browser’s address bar
- Type the following “rm116.com” and press Enter
- What do you see? (Hint: it should be a GoDaddy.com reserved page)
Internet Technology Exercise #2
- Click inside your browser’s address bar
- Type the following “www.rm116.com” and press Enter
- What do you see?
Internet Technology Exercise #3
- Click inside your browser’s address bar
- Type the following “coke” and press Enter
- What do you see?
Uhh... what? So I CAN’T get to rm116.com because I didn’t put a “www” in there... but I CAN get to coca-cola.com just putting “coke” in the address bar?
Something ain’t right.

When i put "coke" in the address bar, it didn't DIRECTLY take me to the coca-cola site, but to a directory where the link is listed. Either that's what you are talking about, or you are on coke.

i think the www needs to be there based on how the server is configured. also i think the "coke" thing goes back a few years when i heard that "keywords" that you could type into browsers were a hot comodity. my thought was either that, or that some browsers are "smart" and can translate that into a webpage address for the user.

Bev: Must be a browser deal (like WWE said above), Firefocks does it for me.
WWE: Yeah, I know, I know... but why wouldn't a major service, like GoDaddy.com, make this a default option? And if keywords work, why do they only work half the time. Let's make a standard and stick wif it!

actually if u just type 'rm116' in the address bar it takes you there as well same as just typing 'coke.'
So 1) whats yer point and
2) maybe rm116.com just shows the godaddy page cuz its technically a subdomain?
chew on that
ps, i'm an idiot

That's no way to talk about yourself, Parc. Gain some self-confidence.
